Aussie flood fighters

With the continued population growth of Australia, urbanisation, and climate change, there is a need to make Australia more resilient to flooding, as well as to increase water storage.

A recent panel discussion during COP26 saw insurance leaders argue for a greater focus on resilience, especially on property flood protection, measures for building repairs, continued investments into flood defences, and the inclusion of natural flood management approaches.

Toowoomba’s Regional Council this week resolved to investigate two key water security measures for the region; the possibility of increasing water capacity of Cressbrook Dam as part of the critical Dam Safety Improvement Project as well as supporting the Emu Creek Dam development by the Queensland State Government.

AUSSIE FLOOD MITIGATION

Aussie Pumps build pumps big enough to “Move flood waters and redirected them.”

The Aussie MQ600TD 6” Trash pump can deliver flows up to 6,000 lpm. Put 3 of these in a bank and immediately you have the capability of moving ‘1 million litres of water’ per hour.

The pumps self prime within a matter of minutes, expelling the water from the pump body creating a vacuum. That automatically primes the pump, drawing water up as high a 7.9 metre vertical lift.

These trash pumps feature a built in front mounted clean out port that enables the pump internals to be cleared of blockages without the need to disconnect pipework.

The MQ600TD is built on a heavy duty skid, the base also contains a 152 litre fuel tank. This means the diesel tank allows the pumps to run for up to 11 hours continuously without refuelling.

A heavy duty trailer is also available that makes the machine highly mobile on sites. The trailer is complemented by an integrated lift bar that enables the machine to be craned whether it’s the skid or trailer mounted version.

One such pump operated by Miller Contracting from Horsham, Victoria, saved the town flooding in 2011! Millers used the 6” pump to divert the flood waters away from the town into a nearby channel.

These big 6” pumps are ideal for Councils or Emergency Services Departments to hold on standby. “They’re mobile, fast to set up in an emergency and are extremely efficient at moving water,” Mathew Miller said.

THE BIG CLEAN UP

Aussie Pumps recognises the enormous task involved with cleaning up after floods.

We hear first-hand the heartbreaking stories of loss and endurance as well as inspiring tales of overcoming the devastation and pushing through it all.

Our Queensland Gold distributors are here to assist customers going through these tough times.

Aussie Pumps can help to, we have a complete range of commercial and industrial high pressure water blasters ready to go.

The range, starting with the 3000 psi Aussie AB30 “Pocket Rocket” offer models that go all the way to 7000psi (500bar).

Available in both Honda petrol and Yanmar diesel drive engine options the machines are robust, mobile and easy to use.

The Aussie Scud is a breakthrough in design. They offer a unique ergonomic, stainless steel frame with four 13” inch steel wheel and big flat free tyres. This means that the machines are easy to move around on site and with a performance range between 3000 – 5000psi, there are models available to virtually suit every application. There is also a wide range of attachments to make flood clean up faster and more efficient.

MOULD SOLUTIONS

Moisture and humidity breed mould that can cause potential health issues.

Even premises that were spared from the flood can fall victims to mildew. One solution for cleaning affected machinery and equipment is to use high pressure hot water and steam cleaners.

There are 3 major advantages of using hot water pressure washers over cold water units.

More efficient at removing oil & grease … can cut cleaning times by 75%.

More Hygienic … steam kills bacteria, moulds and viruses

More Sustainable – gets the job done faster using less water and less chemicals.

Aussie’s range of steam cleaners and hot water machines are specifically design for Australian conditions. They use 4 pole slow speed motors and heavy duty triplex pumps for longevity.

The Aussie Sizzler, is a high pressure hot wash machine that runs off single phase power, delivering 1800 psi (130 bar) of pressure with a flow of 10 lpm.

With a maximum temperature of 80 degrees C, the machine’s use with hot water cleans away oil residue and contaminated water. Great for cleaning farm gear, for use in wash bays and mechanical workshops.

CLEARING SILTED DRAINS

As flood water recedes, many storm water and domestic drains become blocked with silt and debris.

Plumbers using drain cleaning Jetters to unblock drains in minutes with high pressure water jets.

These not only clear the blockages but the water flushes the pipes at the same time.

The Jetters are available in 4000psi and 5000psi options as class A machines. The powerful machines can also be used as a pressure cleaner and the 60m hose fitted gives them huge operating range. Aussie Jetters are available as either ute mount kit or trolley mount and both use Honda and Vanguard twin cylinder industrial engines up to 31hp.

Aussie Pumps is represented in Toowoomba and other regional areas by highly competent Gold Distributors who are experts in both self priming pumps and pressure cleaners. Find your local Distributor on the Aussie Pump website aussiepumps.com.au.
